Cultural shift: private to public

Blogging software, however is not a neutral technical conduit... it is a cultural artefact (van Dijck). Technology has responded to cultural change, that people can be public. Weblogs are representative of this change and offer an unprecedented opportunity for individual expression on a world-wide scale. It is the current cultural climate, where the private is mixed with the public, which propagates this. Weblogs can be seen to facilitate a social process of exchange and participation i.e. people are choosing to be public. Consequently this interplay between public and personal online has resulted in the line, which normally distinguishes between them, becoming very fuzzy.
