Sub-categorisation

"Sub-categorisation and metaphor are end points on a continuum."

A weblog is a Diary: subcategory.
A weblog is a Mosaic: metaphor.

I am not convinced. I would have thought that sub-categorisation and analogue are end points on a continuum. Surely a metaphor is tangental to both analogue and sub-category??
