That which goes unsaid

[see: Tom Coates 24-Sep-05]

I've previously mentioned the strobe-light effect one gets of a weblogger. And that what is written about in their weblog isn't necessarily reflective of what is happening in their life, nor what is important. Whether you refer to it as non-disclosure or non-inclusion will depend on where on the intentional-unintentional continuum you think their motive for not having written about a particular topic rests. It's easy to think of reasons, and I'll humour myself by listing a few:
  1. not thinking subject worthy of inclusion
  2. simple forgetfulness
  3. not wanting to talk about it publicly
  4. not having the time to write about it in the depth you'd like
Tom focuses on the last one. He, like the rest of us, have dozens of ideas spinning around our heads - but full-time jobs, relationships, and other commitments don't allow us the time to write as a pastime. We read for pleasure, but writing-in-a-weblog is as close as writing-for-pleasure as most of us will get.
